Yesterday was great, educational and tiring.

Yesterday (5/14/2013) I attended the T.A.P.P.A. monthly gathering for photographers. I don’t consider myself a full on photographer but an entrepreneur with photographic tendencies.  I like taking visions and seeing them positively change people’s lives.  In other words I am in the people business but I use photography to improve the lives of people.

I did two things that really helped me understand the opportunity at our feet with Firefly.  One was reading four chapters of John Maxwell’s new book the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth and I attended a seminar by NYC photographer Jeffery Shaw.  At the end of the night my brain was dead I had to leave his lecture at the midway point. Definitely a day of TMI!

Here is what I gathered to share with you from both people.

  1. Everyone wants an opportunity to do better but they rarely can put that opportunity into words…so they don’t know what it looks like when it arrives.
  2. Even when you are giving your all, great opportunities don’t show up all the time…you have to take normal, run of the mill, opportunities and make them great.
  3. Everyone says they want an opportunity but many people are so afraid of failure that they think the opportunity is fool’s gold or too good to be true.
  4. You won’t get to meet or get mentored by great people (or anyone) in the beginning of your journey.  At first, mentoring comes from the books you read, the education you acquire, and the failures you overcome.
  5. Deliver exceptional value.
  6. Your vision is your guide not your circumstances.
  7. Living life from a scarcity perspective only produces more scarcity. Today's businesses should be about connecting, growth and abundance for all.
  8. A business owner/ entrepreneur should get rid of anyone that isn’t ready to take full advantage of the opportunity given.
  9. A worker should get rid of any boss that isn’t helping them to create more opportunity for themselves and the business.
  10. You will have to work your ass off to attain the most basic opportunities (low hanging fruit).  You will have to work your ass and your team’s ass off to acquire AND keep great opportunities (big money clients).

No matter what you decide you are 100% control of your decisions to do or not do.

Share this with others that may need a boost today. While you do that I will go over the list and evaluate my journey thus far.

Thanks.
